I use my Facebook Account primarily as my “Nature Diary”, creating Albums of photos each year for spring, summer, fall and winter, and additional albums as appropriate. I usually have one album for our  almost-annual visits to Barbados 2015 to 2025. I have extracted the “Reef Pics” to make the PDF collections below. Each pic consists of a screenshot of an individual FB pic/post, with my description of the photo. There are a few special collections still to add to those below.

My annual visits to Barbados took place over a few weeks to 3 months in the January to April period, thus the pics are essentially “snapshots” of the state of the reef in each of those years.

Pics in the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 record the remarkably healthy state of the Vauxhall Reef in those years, with a few pics from other, mostly degraded reefs in the Folkestone MPA.

In my first views of Vauxhall Reef in 2015, I was astounded to find healthy Acropora cervicornis, A. palmata and A. prolifera, and a wonderful variety of fish.

We missed 2021 and 2022 (due to Covid), returning in 2023 when SCTLD was just getting started, the pics of that year record some of its development. 2023 marked the beginning of the “Years of Vicissitudes”.

In early 2024, I was shocked to see the complete mortality of Acropora prolifera, and high mortality if stinging corals, attributable to Extreme Warming in the months before

In 2025, I was shocked to see the massive physical disruption of the once mostly living spurs on Vauxhall Reef, apparently attributable to Hurricane Beryl passing by Barbados on June30/July1, 2024.

Next set: Hopefully in 2027. We are missing our annual trek to Bim in 2026 unfortunately.
