“The Barbados Marine Spatial Plan is an innovative, and community-driven initiative, created to develop a marine spatial plan that is of, for and by the Barbadian people.

“Through the design of a sustainable marine management plan informed by a stakeholder-driven process, the BMSP aims to foster the responsible use of marine resources, facilitate the enjoyment of the marine space, and nurture a profitable blue economy to benefit all Barbadians.

“The programme is led by the Government of Barbados, with the Coastal Zone Management Unit acting as the lead authority.

“A resilient Barbados with an optimally zoned and effectively managed ocean that supports a Blue Economy for social, economic and ecological well-being.

Updated Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan (2020-2030)
“In late 2020, the CZMU concluded the scientific, technical, internal review and public consultation processes for the updating of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Plan for Barbados. The updated plan was laid before Parliament, approved and gazetted, making it a legally enforceable document for use by stakeholders in the physical development and environmental management sectors.
