Who are the major mass timber manufacturers in Canada currently? Patrick Cobbe: “So there’s eight in Canada now, major manufacturers, starting from east to West you have Art Massif which is kind of on the border of New Brunswick & Quebec, in Saint Jacques, Quebec. Then you have Nordic which is based in Chibougamou Quebec. Then you have Goodfellow in in Montreal. I will say that Art Massif, going back to the first one, they manufacture glulam. Nordic structures does cross laminated timber and glulam. Goodfellow in Montreal QC, they do glulam, Element5 which is the newest one, based in St. Thomas Ontario, they do cross laminated timber and gluelam; then you have Western Archrib which is between Manitoba and Alberta and they do glulam; and Kaliishnakov, Castlegar BC, they do cross laminated timber and glulam and then the Mercer Group which formally acquired Structurelam based in Penticton; and then one of the newer plants in Conway, Arkansas, they do both products and then Structurecraft which is based Abbottsford. BC -they are more of a of an engineer design-assist company but they also have the ability to manufacture a panel product called dowel-laminated.”

Patrick Crabbe, brand development manager with the company, says nearby Elmsdale Lumber provided warehouse space as a temporary shop where NLT panels were manufactured this winter by workers with Celtic Construction, which is a division of Bird. About 85,000 board feet of the mill’s premium lumber was used in the panels.”
