The resulting laboratory analysis of samples taken by CFIA during follow-up has confirmed the presences HWA. The is the first confirmed detection of HWA in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The affected property has been placed under regulatory control and additional surveys in the surrounding area will take place in the coming weeks to better characterize the population.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Additionally the CFIA is following up on a reported HWA observation in the St. Croix area of Hants County, NS. If confirmed this would represent the first detection in that county.<\/p>\n<p>The CFIA values the continued effort and strong collaboration by the HWA Working Group Maritimes to help manage this serious pest of hemlock forests and will continue to share information with the working group participants.
