The John Morris Dyke at Fox River

A newspaper article, published sometime after 1900 by W.T. Guest, makes the comment that an object of interest at Fox River “is the aboiteau that stretches its protesting arm from hill to hill near the mouth of the river.” W.T. Guest continues by stating that the “first dyke was built by John Morris about the year 1820. Mr. Morris took in part payment a portion of the reclaimed land.” John Morris was married to Jane Hatfield, daughter of Capt. John Hatfield.
