Guidelines for preparing academic
Web pages and sites.

This site provides some guidelines for preparing academically oriented Web pages and sites and examples of student assignments that made use of the guidelines. The guidelines were developed for use in Web Literacy for the Natural Sciences (BIOL 2500), which was offered at Dalhousie University for the first time in the fall of 2001. Earlier versions were developed for a class in Agroecosystems (BIOL 3068).

These materials are provided in response to requests from colleagues at Dalhousie University and elsewhere who have expressed interest in making use of the Guidelines.

Students who have graduated from the Web Literacy class are encouraged to request their Instructors in other classes to allow assignments to be written up as Web Pages or Web sites. The Instructor may wish to refer to  this site for examples and for guidelines on the technical aspects.

Permission is given to make use of the guidelines and to modify them for nonprofit, academic use; please acknowledge source (David Patriquin, Dalhousie University and provide the URL for this Web site).

Information about similar efforts and resources is especially appreciated. Please forward that to David Patriquin (e-mail enabled browser NOT required).

Thanks - dp

The first four examples are pages prepared by undergraduate students who had no prior experience in preparing Web pages. The fifth example was produced by a Graduate Student who had no experience; he was asked to include more content than was asked of undergraduate students. The sixth example was produced by a Graduate Student who had some prior experience; she was asked to use Style Sheets, and to include more content than was asked of undergraduate students.
